Spring into Style: Our Pick of the Best SS19 Trends

We did it, ladies. We officially made it to the spring season.

Do you know what this means? It’s time to push coats and winter woollies to the back of our wardrobes and embrace shorter sleeves, higher hems and more lightweight fabrics with open arms. Hurrah!

Even though maximalism shows no signs of going out of style for spring/summer 2019, the designer shows were also filled with functional fabrics and stripped-back separates.

Intrigued? Eager to know more? Not to worry—we’ve got you covered. Read on to find out how you can spring into style with our pick of the best SS19 trends.

Let’s Go to the Beach

We’re officially California dreamin’ after seeing an endless amount of wetsuits, tie-dye and rope detailing on the SS19 runways.

I mean, it’s not every day that Calvin Klein plays homage to Jaws through fangirl t-shirts or Etro sends two surfer girls down their catwalk - are we right?

An easy way to nod to this trend is through a zesty tie-dye hero piece, like this tie-dye maxi dress by Natural Choice. Whether you choose one key print or mix and match different prints, one thing’s for sure: this fun and colourful aesthetic is enough to brighten anyone’s day.

Utilitarian Chic

The utilitarian trend may have stuck around for several seasons now, but each season it’s given a serious style update. For spring/summer 2019, cargo pieces in neutral hues with practical pockets will reign supreme.

The inspiration comes from designers such as Balmain and Givenchy, who sent an abundance of denim boiler suits, oversized anoraks and combat trousers down their catwalks.

If you want to give your spring/summer wardrobe an enchanting military edge this season, team these Karen Millen cargo trousers with a plain white vest top and chunky white trainers for a cool yet chic combination.

Ladylike Luxe

In complete contrast to the androgynous feel of “Utilitarian Chic” comes the flirty femininity of “Ladylike Luxe.”

Inspired by 1950’s refined elegance, this romantic trend took many forms across the SS19 catwalks. Larger-than-life bows were rife at Preen and Marc Jacobs on extravagant dresses and blouses. Ruching was also hugging figures at Givenchy and ruffles dominated at Yves Saint Laurent.

Ideal for a dinner date or heading out for drinks with the girls, pick a key piece like this Zara ruched sleeve blouse and dress it up with a high waisted midi skirt and heeled sandals to stand out for all the right reasons.

Pretty in Print

It’s not just tie-dye that featured across the SS19 catwalks; florals, stripes, animal print and polka dots were also present in colourful clashing combinations.

From floral and stripe fusions at Versace to head-to-toe hypnotic blooms at Alexander McQueen, everything got a little bit chaotic - in the best way. Think: loud and proud!

Not sure if you’re brave enough to jumble up your prints? Don’t sweat it. Start small with this Dancing Leopard floral print playsuit and contrasting leopard print heels and then simply build up your confidence from there.

Exploring the SS19 Trends

It’s no secret that the spring/summer 2019 trends are a bit of a mixed bag. There’s disorder, but there’s simplicity also.

Whether you prefer to play it safe or be adventurous with your outfit choices, have fun, experiment and you’re bound to find the perfect look for you.
